So what does it take to get solid performance at 1080p and 60 fps? After playing around with a number of setups and game tuning, we think the high end AA solution and PCSS are big performance drains and not everyone will have the high end PC gaming setup. In short, the recommended setting will not launch the game at a maximum experience of 30 frames per second. Unfortunately, this is not the case and we had to reduce the Shadow Quality and AA to FXAA to run a fairly stable 30fps speed. We used an AMD Radeon R9 290X and an AMD FX 8350 and obviously went ahead and optimized everything and checked if it could hit 30fps.

To start the test, we first looked at the Ubisoft recommended settings for 1080p and 30fps gameplay. It really helps you customize the performance of the game, but it should be noted that the slider is only an indication of performance and not a benchmark tool. When you change the various options through these settings, the game provides you with a visual reference on the amount of video memory used by the engine. We still have the usual shadow quality, several custom AA solutions as well as your standard FXAA, textures and environmental settings. The graphics settings found in Syndicate haven’t changed much when compared to Unity. Most of the sacrifices made on consoles are also found in the PC version.

Although it does not come close to Unity, it sometimes matches the visual fidelity offered by the latter. Please select 1080p and 60fps for the best possible video playback quality.Īssassin’s Creed Syndicate is definitely a better looking game on PC than it is on consoles. Video featuring PC footage and a direct comparison to the PS4 version. But the big question is, does the PC version make the same number of sacrifices as the console versions or does it use the power of the modern platform to deliver visuals on par with Unity?

The PC version was delayed for 3 weeks so that Ubisoft Quebec could optimize the code base. Assassin’s Creed Syndicate was released a year later, first on PS4 and Xbox One, then on PC, and as we’ve reported before, the performance was much better compared to Unity. It was a preview of what the future could possibly bring in terms of setting new graphical benchmarks with literally hundreds of NPCs with their own set of AIs and dynamic levels of interactions. The game was a trendsetter using high-end high dynamic range lighting technology, post-processing effects, and amazing tree enhancements. Regardless of the performance issues, there’s no denying the visual fidelity of Assassin’s Creed Unity. But nothing worked, and several high-end gaming PCs literally struggled to achieve a consistent 60fps speed.

Ubisoft then launched a patch stream for Unity across all platforms as it worked to improve performance and frame rate settings. Granted, performance was horrendous on the AMD line of GPUs, but things weren’t all rosy on Nvidia’s side as well. Featuring several optimization issues, bugs, and performance drops, Ubisoft gained a ton of bad reputations among PC gamers for its somewhat disappointing efforts on what was essentially a brand new Assassin’s Creed game on a new engine. THELast year, Assassin’s Creed Unity was a disappointment on PC.
